Amnesty international on water in Palestine
In October 2009 Amnesty International published a new report dealing with the freshwater situation for the people in the West Bank and the Gaza Stripe.
Here are some of the facts from the report:
Too much talking
After the report has been published both sides took the roles they know best: One acts as the victim and the other side acts enraged. But mutual blame does not satisfy anyone’s thirst!
Act different: Get active
From my point of view only a different habit would help the people suffering from the shortcoming of freshwater:
My two cents worth
I truly believe, that freshwater has the power to unite the people.
The third side: The Abraham Path Initiative
I am aware of the fact that while you are reading these lines you might feel frustrated or see me as a dreamer (Yes, I am!). You have heard these wishes for a better future all too often without any results.
In everyday life there are improvements: One example on how the third side - all of us - can influence this conflict for mutual gain is The Abraham Path Initiative initiated by William Ury. By truly walking the talk you can experience how everyday life is in Israel, the West Bank and beyond. And that there is much more that unites the people than divides them. The gap is only 5% not 95%!
I know it’s a dream that someday the people in this area will live in peace and that they share their common resources including their history and fresh water. I believe in the people in this area that one day they will make their dream come true, because deep inside everyone knows what’s right.
